ENG VS IND: England cricket team started the Day 5 as the favourites to win the game, given the way they approached themselves in the second innings.

Team India who performed very well in the first innings lost the spark to ignite their process in the second innings. England made a superb comeback in the second innings.

They restricted India to 245 in the second innings and were given a target of 378. The hosts got off to a rock-solid start to the game with a 104-run stand for the opening wicket.

Alex Lees and Zak Crawley took the game away from the visitors by making a strong statement. Although India got rid of both the batters and Ollie Pope, England found support in the form of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root.

The duo changed the entire complexion of the game by approaching the innings with a blend of caution and aggression. They scored runs and at the same time played sensible brand of cricket.

The duo added a 200-plus partnership for the fourth wicket. Joe Root who is in the form of his life went on to score a brilliant century.

Jonny Bairstow who scored a century in the first innings went on to score another century in the second innings. Bairstow and Root broke the confidence of the Indian bowlers.

Meanwhile, Joe Root took his batting to the next level when he smashed a reverse scoop shot for a maximum off Shardul Thakur. The bowling all-rounder pitched the ball right in the slot.
